Reading note This case study condenses recurring situations observed in comparable organizations. It serves to illustrate a plausible trajectory, not to recount the exhaustive file of a named client.
A transformation and compliance consulting firm has an excellent relational reputation. The partners sign complex engagements. Referrals circulate well. Yet as soon as a cold prospect lands on the site, something breaks. The pages talk about strategy, support, governance, transformation, risk, alignment and performance, but nothing allows them to quickly understand what the firm does better than others, nor how its areas of expertise connect.
Initial situation
The firm grew in layers. Each partner brought a specialty, then pages were added to reflect this growth. The site contains multiple formulations of the offering, a few articles, uneven personnel profiles and a very general “about” page. Internally, everyone knows the difference between compliance engagements, strategic interventions, implementation work and more punctual support. Externally, that difference disappears.
The visible signals are typical:
- service pages use abstract formulations close to those of many other firms;
- the experts are more convincing individually than the common brand;
- the content corpus exists, but it does not help qualify the right engagements;
- when an AI system summarizes the firm, it places it closer to much more generalist players, a classic symptom of a misunderstood or ambiguous brand.
What the diagnostic uncovers
The first finding is that the problem is not a lack of competence, but a weakness in the public reading.
The site offers no clear surface for understanding the firm’s structure. Pages talk about the offering but do not show enough proof. The visible people are not sufficiently connected to the common entity. The thought leadership content exists but functions as fragments without architecture. Finally, some of the firm’s historical formulations remain active on older surfaces, adding a layer of noise.
The diagnostic also shows that the firm tends to speak in posture words rather than decision situations. For someone discovering the organization cold, everything appears serious, but nothing helps them recognize themselves quickly.
Intervention trajectory
The first step is not an immediate redesign. It consists of rebuilding the reading hierarchy.
- Clarify the offering around a few genuinely distinct buying situations, rather than multiplying similar formulations.
- Connect the experts to the common brand by making the links between areas of expertise, sectors covered and types of engagements more explicit.
- Create inspectable proof that shows how the firm works and what changes after intervention.
- Reconfigure the corpus so that expert content supports the commercial pages instead of floating beside them.
- Reduce historical noise by identifying pages, formulations and assets that should be consolidated or de-emphasized.
In this case study, brand disambiguation becomes as important as content architecture. The firm does not need to appear larger. It needs to appear more readable.
What becomes observable
Once the architecture is reorganized, several changes become visible.
The first is speed of understanding. An external person understands more quickly which problems the firm actually handles. Pages stop looking alike. They talk about contexts, decisions, risks and proof.
The second change is the quality of the common brand. The partners continue to exist as experts, but their visibility finally feeds the firm’s. External systems have more structured material to connect the people, the entity and the specialties.
The third change is the value of the corpus. The thought leadership content stops being isolated signals. It reinforces cleaner service pages, more useful proof and a more stable reading of the offering.
Why this case study is useful
This case shows that a firm can appear weak digitally even when its real value is high. The problem does not necessarily stem from the level of expertise, or even from the volume of content. It often comes from the way the site does, or does not, make that expertise intelligible.
In such a situation, the priority is not “make a prettier site.” The priority is to make the offering more interpretable, the proof more visible and the brand more stable. This profile is detailed on the consulting firms page.
What to show if this note becomes public
To turn this case study into a publishable page, you would need at minimum:
- a before/after table of the offering structure;
- a capture of the old vs. new service page logic;
- a simple diagram connecting brand, experts, sectors and proof;
- a clear CTA toward the diagnostic.
Without these elements, the case remains interesting. With them, it becomes demonstrative.
