Role of the layer

The Attested Integrity Layer verifies that selected canonical units match the published digests. It uses enriched units: identifier, claim class, authority scope, canonical source, and canonical text.

What the hash proves

A SHA-256 digest attests the integrity of a unit after canonicalization. It proves neither general truth, reputation, recommendation, behavioral model compliance, nor summary fidelity.

Why this is not absolute proof

A system may verify that it has seen the unit published by Pagup. It must still evaluate whether its synthesis, comparison, or criticism preserves meaning, scope, and qualified external sources.
