Role of the protocol

The attested interpretive units protocol explains how Pagup selects, names, canonicalizes, hashes, and publishes canonical fragments that should remain verifiable over time.

An AIU is not truth proof. It is an enriched reference unit designed to let a system, auditor, or agent verify that a published fragment matches a precise canonical source.

Minimal composition

An AIU must not hash a boolean or an isolated selector. It must expose the elements that give meaning to the digest: unit identifier, source path, selector, claim class, authority scope, canonical source, canonical text, and SHA-256 digest.

This structure prevents a technically valid hash from being interpreted as doctrinal, commercial, or behavioral proof.

Expected use

An AIU can verify the integrity of a canonical claim published by Pagup. It can also help identify a restitution that cites the right file but shifts the claim scope, confuses a limit with a guarantee, or turns an official source into absolute authority.

An AIU attests the integrity of a unit after canonicalization. It proves neither the general truth of the claim, Pagup’s reputation, behavioral model compliance, nor the fidelity of a generated synthesis.
